Europe vs Americas

Due to get underway on September 25th at The Casino Empire in the heart of London’s Leicester Sq, the Caesars Cup Invitational is a Ryder Cup inspired poker event that will see the cream of the European poker scene captained by Betfair Poker’s very own Annette “Annette15” Obrestad, pitted against Daniel Negreanu’s Team America.

After three months of exclusive online qualification for the inaugural Caesars Cup Invitational, Betfair Poker is pleased to announce we have a winner....

JOHN2204 triumphed in the September 14th Caesars 9 Online final and will fill the last spot in Team Europe for this once in a lifetime opportunity to play in this unique event.

Betfair poker recently caught up with John to find out a little more about the man behind the alias and his thoughts on playing with some of the biggest names in the poker world today:

BetfairPoker:  What do you currently do for a living?

John:  Normally I'm a pipe inspector although I'm currently not working.

BetfairPoker:  What is your age?

John:  I was born in 1962

BetfairPoker:  Who is your favourite player on the poker scene today?

John:  Probably Gus Hansen

BetfairPoker:  How would you describe your playing style?

John:  Hard to day, sometimes online is unbelievable so you have to adjust your playing style. I can be aggressive but it depends on the situation so I would have to say aggressive/situational.

BetfairPoker:  What is your preferred game?

John:  No Limit Hold 'em

BetfairPoker:  How do you think online poker compares to live poker?

John:  Truthfully, I don't think there is a comparison to be made between live and online poker. Some of the hands you see online are unreal but obviously, you can be done offline too. Ultimately in poker, what can happen, happens and you have to just accept that.

BetfairPoker:  Do you think your online experience will hold you in good stead against some of the poker superstars you will be playing against such as Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu?

John:  No chance! I'll brick it. My online experience will give me no chance against this calibre of player. I have played live a fair bit but this truly is a different league.

BetfairPoker:  Which player or players are you most excited about playing against and why?

John:  Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and of course Doyle Brunson, you've got to give him respect for his achievements. I have watched Doyle and the rest on TV for years so I am most excited about playing against the players I recognise from TV.

BetfairPoker: Which team do you think will win the Caesars Cup and why?

John:  It'll more than likely be us [Europe]. I think you have to say the American team are favourites however, when sporting events like this are played for the first time the home team usually wins so because Europe are the home team, I think we will win.

BetfairPoker:  What do think about the unique structure of the event?

John:  I think it will be a little strange to alternate players for each betting round but I like the idea, so lets see how it goes.

BetfairPoker:  Finally, prior to Caesars Cup, what is the biggest game you have played in?

John:  The $18,000 Guaranteed tournament on Betfair Poker.

BetfairPoker:

Thank you for time John and very best of luck in the Caesars Cup!
