Barry Shulman Wins...

2009-10-02 05:57:07

At 5.20am, Barry Shulman was the eventual winner at the final table of the World Series of Poker Europe presented by Betfair. Going heads up with Canadian heavyweight Daniel Negreanu at the final table the newly crowned 2009 WSOPE champion Barry Shulman has taken home the £801,603 cash first prize and the coveted WSOPE gold bracelet.

Heading into the closing stages Shulman entered into uncharted territory in the Main Event Final table overcoming determined opponents in the shape of Brit Praz Bansi and Daniel Negreanu eager to secure his first WSOPE bracelet. In the final heads up of the six day Main Event Barry had Ts-Tc against Daniel’s 4s-4d. The tens held for Shulman.

Shulman has previously finished first in the money in a World Series of Poker (WSOP) event in 1997 at the $3,000 pot limit hold’em event. He has also gone on to cash 11 times since then, and won a bracelet at the 2001 World Series of Poker in the $1,500 seven card stud hi-lo spilt or better event.

Attracting the best players from around the world, WSOPE presented by Betfair is the most prestigious event to take place outside of the US and compliments the WSOP which takes place annually in Las Vegas. Beginning on the 17th September this year's WSOPE has seen established pros and Betfair online qualifiers go head-to-head to compete for the millions of prize money on offer.

Taking place at The Casino at The Empire, Leicester Square this year's showcase tournament featured four sanctioned bracelet events with 342 entrants chasing the Main Event dream.

Richard Bloch, International PR Manager Betfair Poker said:

"We are thrilled that Barry Shulman has won the third WSOPE main event title presented by Betfair. He faced tough opposition but showed his class and is a very deserving winner"
