Single table tournaments, also known as "Sit & Gos" are both a great way to learn poker and arguably the most enjoyable format to play. They are quick, exciting and test a range of skills.
Players bring in a pre-determined number of chips, for example 10, same as everybody else at the table. The game will start when all the available seats are filled and the aim is simple, win everybody else's chips!
The reason that we say that they're so good for beginners is that you get to see a lot of hands for a small number of chips risked and you can easily limit your losses as you can only ever lose what you brought in.
To play a Sit & Go, just choose a game under the 'Sit & Go' tab in the tournament lobby at a stake level you feel comfortable playing for. Double click on the tournament and then click on the 'register' tab. The game will start once all of the seats have been occupied.
Every player starts with the same amount of chips, and quite simply, when you've lost all of your chips, you're out. Blinds start off very small and gradually increase in order to ensure that the game comes to an end. Blinds increase at set time intervals depending on whether the tournament has a Super Turbo, Turbo, Standard or Deep Stack structure.
Players receive a payout according to the position they finish in the tournament. These are broken down as follows:
There's no need to worry if a Sit & Go tournament you attempt to enter fills up before you manage to join it, as new ones are automatically regenerated by the system.
